Things I wish I'd known.

Your teenage years are some of the hardest years you'll ever face. These are some of the things I wish I'd realised during my teenage years.

You are responsible for your own happiness.

You don't need loads of friends or a boyfriend/ girlfriend to be happy.

If you don't want to date someone then don't.

Listen to your instincts.

Take as many opportunities as you can.

Old songs will make you reminisce old memories.

You'll listen to depressing songs when you're sad.

And possibly look at yourself in the mirror when you're crying and end up crying more.

Crying doesn't make you weak.

Boys cry too.

So do you're parents and grandparents.

You're going to get over emotional for no reason what so ever and need a hug off your mum.

Period pains hurt.

So do wearing heels for the first time.

You don't have to wear the shortest or tightest clothes to stand out.

Be honest to yourself and obsess over whatever you want to.

Spend your time with the people who appreciate you the most.

Spend as much time with family as you can, they wont always be around.

Make decisions that you'll thank yourself for later in life.

Being shy isn't always a bad thing.

Neither is being confident.

Mental health isn't something to be ashamed of.

Neither is your sexuality, religion or beliefs.

Just because someone doesn't agree with you, it doesn't make either of you wrong.

Everyone is entitled to an opinion.

Don't be ashamed to tell people how you really feel.

Honesty (within reason) is the best policy.

Acting dull around him doesn't make you any cuter.

You'll always remember more song lyrics than school work.

You'll forget at least one piece of homework in your lifetime.

You might even enjoy the lesson you hate if you try.

You'll hate school or a teacher at least once a year.

But, you'll definitely miss it when it's over.

"Don't tell anyone" actually means don't tell anyone.

When you bitch about someone they'll eventually find out.

Same goes for when someone bitches about you.

You're going to screen shot things on your phone and send them in group chats.

Boys don't have to be the first one to text you.

If you want to text him, do it. What's the worst that can happen?

If you really like someone tell them.

Don't let anyone make you do something you're not comfortable with.

Be responsible.

Not all relationships last forever.

A thigh gap isn't important.

If you're comfortable with the way you look, then it doesn't matter what anyone else thinks.

Your weight, hair, skin or imperfections don't change who you are.

Acne isn't the end of the world. It gets better. Eventually.

Wear as much or as little make up, that makes you happy.

Pick a style that you like, not what's popular.

You're going to think you're having a mid life crisis at about 16. Then probably every year after that.

You don't have to have your whole life planned out.

Everything does eventually get better.

  1. Really good post. I enjoyed reading that even though I felt as though it was more than 10 points but I think this post can be re-assuring for the teenagers outs there!
